Wet Nuts
The term "wet nuts" has caused some readers a bit of horror, so I decided to clarify. I agree it is definitely gross sounding and I've never really been a fan. I prefer the alternative "dry nuts." Maybe this is a Millpond thing. Maybe this is a Southern thing. I don't know. Wet nuts are walnuts in syrup (yuck) and dry nuts are chopped peanuts. Dry nuts are far superior. My mother is a wet nut lover. Oh my God, that sounds terrible. I can only imagine the Google searches that will appear on my site meter from that phrase. I wanted to show you a picture and I really dreaded the results when I searched Google Images, but luckily I didn't come up with anything that would have burned my innocent eyeballs. I think it may be a Southern thing; my mother loves wet nuts as well! I prefer dry myself...It is horrible! I enjoyed this portion of the story so far. I too, worked at an ice cream shoppe. One in Jupiter, FL actually! I convinced smelling like ice cream all day was what kept me sweet! :)
Hehehehe you said "wet nuts"!!
Yes, I am 12 today...
I've had my nuts both wet and dry, and I agree with you...I much prefer dry...
I am brought to mind of the SNL sketch with Alec Baldwin as the hot dog salesman named Schweddie.
Wet nuts, no, never heard of them before. They do sound sweet though.
It always amazes me how people eat nuts with their ice cream, in any form. Never heard of the wet nut thing. Even the clean description sounds unpleasant. Guess that's ok, though, if some folks want it.
Yes, please be sure that SafeSearch in ON when googling WET NUTS. Oh Dear....
I'm a southern gal and prefer dry nuts. But this post did make me laugh!
Thank you for clearing that up!
;) I guessed it was something like that, but I'd never heard that one before. Sometimes it's better NOT to let my imagination run wild!
Is that like boiled peanuts.
I do and don't like them.
I can't stop eating them then wonder why I ate them.
In Southern maryland the word Boiled sounds like Bald..much confusion there...would you eat a bald peanut?
I'm laughing uproariously. Tears and all. I love, "wet nut lover". Absolutely too funny and I'm laughing so hard I'm feeling a bit immature .... and don't care. Wet nut lover. That's a good one. Too bad I can never use it around here because no one north of the Mason Dixon Line has ever heard of these.
Love your blog, and can't wait to hear the rest of the First Job story.

Lies. Wet nuts (especially if you use maple syrup) are far superior to dry, yicky peanuts.
I was wondering what the wet nuts were, never heard of them before, they sound gross!
My first job was in an ice cream shopPE as well. My boss was an old, kinda pervy vet that paid us under the table so he didn't have to deal with the gov't (I always wondered how he got away with owning this place and claiming to have zero employees, it was only open for 1 summer sooooo...), but he let us eat as much ice cream as we wanted. But only 1 chili dog per day! He bought the good cones, they never broke :)
I had no idea what "wet nuts" were prior to your post. As an aside, I have been making jam for days and my soft-set strawberry freezer jam/ice cream topping is much more delicious looking than the strawberry topping featured in the wet nuts picture.
In case you are wondering: jams I've made: a ton of freezer strawberry, plus hot packed: strawberry rhubarb, strawberry w/ a bit of blueberry, and black raspberry (berries picked in my backyard!) and strawberry jelly. Tomorrow's jam flavors: single flavors or combos of mulberry, rhubarb, and black raspberry.

It's not a southern thing - we have wet nuts here in PA, too. My mom loves them.
Now I feel like an ignorant hick...I never would have imagined DRY nuts for ice cream. What else would I miss if I left the South?
