Sad News
I debated for a while about announcing this. I don't like to broadcast things like this so publicly (unlike everything else) but my grandfather died and I have been in Millpond, which is the reason for the abrupt interruption of my coconut posts. I've been very busy with this, and sad and overwhelmed to a point where writing was about the last thing on my mind. Plus, there is no Internet in Millpond. I think maybe some people have it at work if they work in other cities and maybe like the mayor has an AOL account or something, but other than that for the past week I've been stuck in some kind of Flannery O'Connor/ Eudora Welty/ Carson McCullers story circa about 1950 and that just served to make me sadder in that awful nostalgic way I get sometimes. I think that I will write about all the things that happened, because Lord knows in the midst of tragedy odd, funny things are bound to happen, especially in the South and especially when it's 108 degrees, but I need a few days to get myself back in order and feel a little better about things. I'm back home now and catching up on my work. Every day I wake up feeling better than the day before and I know Pop is at peace now and not in pain anymore which makes me less sad, but even when you're as prepared for these things as I was, it doesn't seem to make it any easier I guess.

I'm so sorry. You and your family will be in my thoughts, and as usual, I can't wait for new posts.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Look after yourself and take your time. We'll all be here when you're ready.
I'm realy sory for you and your family
Take care
I'm sorry for your loss, but did you at least get to eat Coca Cola cake? Every good Southern wake needs Coca Cola cake.
Just trying to make you smile during a painful time. The only way out is through, and that includes grief. Take all the time you need.
I am sad to hear your news. Know that we are sending our thoughts your way, and take care.
Awwwwww... *HUGS!* I'm so sorry about your Pop. :( My Pop died 21 years ago and I still miss him to this day. It is hard to lose a special family member. Thank goodness for pictures and good memories.
death is sometimes tragic, usually painful for those left behind, but always necessary. we're all praying for you.
at least he wasnt killed by a falling coconut. o_0
Yes, doesn't make it easier. Sorry for your loss.
I was wondering if you were okay (and getting awfully tired of the coconuts). I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. Sending love and light your way...
I'm sorry.

As a Loyal reader i wish to offer my Condolences on your loss.
May you be comforted among the Mourners of Zion.
I'm very sorry you're going through a not fun time right now. Here's hoping that the days go by quickly so that the healing can happen sooner rather than later.
I'm truly sorry for your loss. Just take it day-by-day.The day will come when you remember the horses story and others associated with your grand father, and instead of feeling sad you will actually smile. It just takes some time to get there.
My thoughts and prayers with you and your family. I fondly remember him driving you to school as you tried to hide in the seat.
I'm so very sorry for you loss. Losing someone you love is never easy. As everyone else said I'm here if you need anything at all.
AAhhh...it is so hard to lose those we have loved and looked up to. But none of us can escape it.
I am so sorry. You will be in my thoughts.
Sorry to hear about Pop...
I can't wait for the new posts, I wonder if Pops has a new appreciation for Millpond after seeing it from the "other side"..hmm
Sincere sympathy and condolences.
And a virtual hug or three.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
You are all the nicest people in the entire world. Thank you so much for all of your kind words.
And JDogg - not that grandfather. That one's been dead 11 years. This is the one who was at my wedding. But I still miss the other one and think of him everyday too. I think they're up there playing cards and smoking cigars together as I write this. They knew each other long before their kids got together and made me.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandpa. I lost mine 6 years ago and have missed him every day since. I'm thinking about you out here in AZ.
Awww, honey... I'm so sorry. Death always comes too soon, even if we expect it. In a perfect world it wouldn't happen.
((((arms around you))))

I"m very sorry to hear of your loss. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Sorry to hear of your loss. It is always difficult to lose a family member!
I am so sorry you lost your Pop.
Losing a loved one is very hard, no matter how "ready" everyone is for it to happen. I can tell you from experience that you will be profoundly sad for awhile, but it does get better.
You are right; some very funny stuff happens in the midst of all the events involved with losing a loved one, and dealing with their final arrangements. For instance, my Mom billed herself as the only flat chested fat lady in the history of the world. So, when, before her wake was to begin, my sisters and I went to look at our Mom, we noticed immediately that she had a modest, yet remarkably perky bosom. The first thing we all did was poke at her chest to figure out where the heck the boobs came from. When people began to walk in, there we all were standing next to our dead Mom laughing and feeling her up.
When you are ready "talk" about it, I look forward to reading about what crazy stuff happened with your family while you were celebrating your Pop's life.
Regards,
"Lana Wood"

I've never commented before but I read your blog all the time and you are a great writer and I really enjoy you stuff.
I hope you feel better soon and cherish your fond memories of your grandfather.
My heart goes out to you.
**hugs** It's hard to lose a family member.
I am also so sorry and sad to hear that you've lost your grandfather. Losing grandparents is particularly painful, because so often they are the ones who loved you without complication or contingency.
I'm sending healing thoughts and love to you and your family.
I'm so sorry, but isn't it a fantastic - I don't know - comfort? - when you get to feel how deep your love goes?
I am so sorry for your loss. Please remember, time wounds all heels. Take care.
I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. It is so so so hard to loose someone, anyone, ... just so hard. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry for your loss. You are never prepared for it, no matter how much you think you are. Keep hold of the good memories.
If you weren't four states away I'd bring you a casserole. With ham in it.
So sorry. Take care of you.
Take gentle care of yourself.
I'm so sorry, dear. Take all the time you need to grieve.
I'm so sorry for your loss, we are all thinking of you.
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure he watching over you and feeling mighty proud.
Very sorry for your loss.
I laughed so hard about Red Lobster; it was always the "family reunion" dinner spot of choice, and I never failed to feel like a sore thumb in a sea of rednecks, but I sure used to enjoy those garlic cheese biscuits.
