My Peacock
I got a great picture of the boss man peacock that runs my neighborhood. We have a flock of rogue, wild peacocks that run around this area terrorizing cats and raising hell wherever they go with all their hollering. Peacocks are definitely the Rich White People of the bird world. They're ostentatious, pushy and make an ungodly amount of noise. They also go wherever they please with no regard to anyone else. Many mornings I've found them sitting on top of my car and they seem very offended when I shoo them away. But overall, I love living in a place with peacocks and I don't mind all their noise. It makes me feel like I live on the grounds of the Taj Mahal or something and after several years in this place, I still get excited when I see their iridescent teal and electric blue plumage. I also love how in Spanish the word for peacock is Pavo Real. It translates literally to Royal Turkey, which, for some reason, I find very funny.

Wow. He's pretty and he knows it!
He totally knows it. He's all like "Let me pose for you because of my beautiful-ness. Make sure you get my entire tail in the picture. The ladies love my tail. It's the longest tail in town baby."
Peacocks just roaming around the neighborhood? That is so cool.
Oh, I want a pair of peacocks like I had briefly as a child. I loved them so much. And I love the noise most of the time. I wonder if our neighbors would?
My surname is Peacock and I LOVE anything peacock-related (except for poop). I, however, am not the rich white people of the people world, but that's just fine with me.
I teach high school and some student actually went somewhere where he heard some peacocks. He told me after I was yelling for my class to quieten down, that I sounded just like a real peacock. Bonus for me.
I absolutely cannot stand peacocks...a barn I worked at kept them to desensitize the trail horses that they rented out. But we live in the middle of Michigan, and what on earth those birds did to deal with the cold winter with no designated housing is beyond me. Oh, wait..now I remember, they'd stay in the rafters of the indoor riding arena and swoop down on me while I was riding, and scaring the living crap out of my horse!
Oo, I know a few Pavo Reals, but they're not real birds.
I like yours better.
When I lived in England there were peacocks at a pub nearby. They'd get up on the table and eat from the sugar bowls. Not always the empty tables, either.
What a beautiful picture! Please, keep the photos coming!
Great pic. We had some running around one of the neighborhoods I lived in, too, and I loved watching them.
Truly, you live in a different world than I do.
my mom lives in a snooty apartment complex. she's on the ground floor, so when the kids and i go there, we pretend that the woods behind her building are her yard. one day my two year old climbed over a hill. i looked up to see him come flying back down looking terrified. squawking after him was a peacock. he wasn't chasing my baby, just walking after him making that noise they make.
i'm a good mom, so of course, i laughed until i nearly peed my pants.
my mom wanted peacocks in her new grove house. I found a ton of them near a dog park on south bayshore but then i found out that they love to eat flowers and are super loud. They all allowed me to take as many as I wanted but I decided to leave empty empty handed.
wish you had your archives as i missed the last 2 months of your of subservient days (maybe you could send links to me?)
But i love this one just as much, if not better!
That's so awesome. I would trade stray cats for peacocks in a second.
